What you’ll do:

The Director of Finance will oversee the accounting, budgeting, and payroll functions by leading a team of 11 to deliver essential financial management services and support for Vera. The position will ensure that internal controls are implemented and complied with in accordance with Vera’s policy and procedures and funder requirements. The Director of Finance will also be responsible for overseeing cash flow, maintaining banking relationships, and be the main point of contact for Vera’s auditors. The position will also manage the budget processes as well as the delivery of financial statements, budget vs. actuals, and other financial modeling reports.

Specific responsibilities include: 

  1. Financial Management:
  • Ensures timely monthly financial close and delivery of budget vs. actual reports to support senior leader decision making
  • Collaborates with Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer (CFO/COO) on supporting senior leadership with strategic financial management
  • Oversees accounting function and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Directs planning and management of annual financial audit, financial statement compilation, and completion of Form 990 and 5500s
  • Leads organizational budget process; supports CFO/COO in reporting out to senior leadership and board of trustees
  • Ensures effective design and implementation of internal controls; ensures compliance with Vera’s Travel Policy and compliance with funder rules and regulations

 

  1. Cash Flow Management:
  • Ensure finance team is billing funders on timely basis; oversees timely report and follow-up on outstanding receivables
  • Supports CFO/COO in overseeing Vera’s banking and investment advisor relationships
  • Ensures adequate bank balances to meet short-term obligations
  1. Collaborative Management:
  • Ensures team meets organizational goals, collaborating as necessary with People Resources, Information Technology, and Workplace Services
  • Provides support and thought partnership to unit and project leaders in organization
  • Explain financial information to non-finance leaders in understandable and comprehensive way
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field
  • 5-10 years of management experience in the social service space
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in providing high-quality, accurate financial services and reports
  • Demonstrated ability to present financial information to non-finance leaders; able to interact and present at senior leader and board level
  • Excellent communication skills, both in written and oral form; ability to write memos summarizing financial information
  • Strong Excel skills; able to build reports and graphs and lead team in generating and providing reports
  • Ability to lead with inclusivity
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite(Advanced Excel), Abila MIP, Microix, Adaptive Insights and ADP Workforce Now

 

Compensation and Benefits

Salary will be commensurate with experience and includes excellent benefits. Vera believes in compensating its staff members at or above market.
